On Saturday, April 28th, 2007, the buzz continued to build around the new indie comedy STASH at the 40th Annual WorldFest Award Banquet in Houston. Producer Peter Miller, decked out in his red-carpet best, happily accepted the prestigious Gold Remi Award for excellence in the category of Mature Audience Narrative Feature.
WorldFest was founded 46 years ago as Cinema Arts, an International Film Society in August, 1961. WorldFest became the third competitive international film festival in North America, following San Francisco and New York. WorldFest is the oldest Independent Film & Video Festival in the World. It evolved into a competitive International Film Festival in April, 1968. Past discoveries of the festival include Ang Lee, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas.
This year, STASH was one of 4,500 entries from 37 countries in over 200 categories. No awards are given in any category unless the scores from the juries are high enough to place for honors. Overall only about 15% of the total category entries actually win an award at WorldFest.
We are absolutely delighted, says Writer/Director Jay Bonansinga. STASH is a unique hybrid of genres and tones, and to be honest, sort of controversial. Having the imprimatur of a major award in a major festival is so exciting...and also helpful in enabling STASH to find its audience.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On May 11th and 12th, 2007, the venerable Wilmette Theater, mecca of north shore movie mavens, will present a special limited engagement of the new indie comedy STASH, written and directed by Evanston native and bestselling novelist Jay Bonansinga, and featuring local funnyman Tim Kazurinsky (POLICE ACADEMY, SNL), as well as counter-culture icon Marilyn Chambers (BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR)!
This very special engagement marks the world premiere of this one-of-a-kind comedy that Hollywood guru Richard Walter calls, Hilarious...and also insightful into the nature of the human condition. The darkly comic story revolves around a young entrepreneur who will sneak into a client's home, in the event of their death, and remove all their stashes of embarrassing adult magazines and DVDs before their loved ones have a chance to stumble upon them. The film has also been selected by the Houston WorldFest Film Festival for competition.
Director Bonansinga is a Columbia College graduate, a Northwestern professor in the School of Radio/Television and Film, and also an acclaimed author whom the Chicago Tribune has called, one of the most imaginative writers of thrillers. STASH marks his directorial debut. The film is shot in the style of such beloved mock documentaries as SPINAL TAP and THE OFFICE. A host of Chicago improv specialists round out the cast, including Will Clinger (WTTW' WILD CHICAGO), Jimmy Carrane (NATURAL BORN KILLERS), Mary Kay Cook (STIR OF ECHOES), and a new discovery in the lead, Chicago actor Brian King.
Ultimately Bonansinga cites DR. STRANGELOVE as the biggest influence on STASH. I think Kubrick's film warped me so profoundly as a kid, he recalls. I wanted my actors to emulate that hyper-realism which Peter Sellers gets as President Muffley.
Show times are at 10:00 PM each night. (On Friday night only: The Director and selected Cast and Crew will be present after the screening for Q&A.) IMPORTANT NOTE: This film is not yet rated and is for mature audiences only. Length: 1:22. Color.

Marilyn Chambers, the legendary Ivory Snow model and naughty film superstar, recently turned in a hilarious guest spot in the new indie mock-doc STASH by Chicago filmmaker Jay Bonansinga. The film, which also guest-stars Tim Kazurinsky of Saturday Night Live and Police Academy fame, is a dark comedy about a small time entrepreneur who has a porn removal service (in the event of a client's death, he sneaks into their home and removes their stash before loved ones stumble upon it).
Marilyn came in for one day and blew us all away, Bonansinga gushes. She was working with all these brilliant Second City improv people and just hit it out of the park. I'd say move over Burt Reynolds, STASH is going to be Marilyn's 'Boogie Nights'...I'd use her again in a second!
The film, which is currently being represented by Jon Sheinberg of The Machine, is having a private screening at Sony Pictures this Thursday, December 7th, 2006 for a who's-who of studio buyers. And viewers will enjoy a special treat: Ms. Chambers herself is putting in a special appearance at the screening! ID's will be checked.
